Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe has reportedly called on Igbo communities across the country to remain vigilant and prepared in the face of what he described as emerging security and political challenges facing Nigeria.
In comments circulating widely on social media, Abaribe, who represents Abia- South federal constituency was quoted as warning that the situation confronting Nigeria could become more dangerous than previous periods of conflict if citizens fail to remain alert and united.
According to the widely shared statement, the senator urged Ndigbo to “arm yourself with courage” and strengthen community solidarity, emphasizing the need for preparedness and vigilance rather than fear.
“This is not the time for fear. This is the time for vigilance. No one will protect you better than you protect yourself,” he was quoted as saying.
Abaribe also reportedly cautioned that recent developments across the country require communities to be proactive in safeguarding their interests and ensuring their collective security.
“History will not repeat itself on our watch. Let every man stand firm—because the storm approaching Nigeria does not respect tribal lines but targets the unprepared,” the statement attributed to him read.
The comments have sparked widespread reactions on social media, with supporters describing the remarks as a call for vigilance and self-preservation.
As of the time of filing this report, there was no official statement from Abaribe’s office clarifying the context of the remarks or confirming the authenticity of the circulating comments.
Abaribe, a former Senate Minority Leader and one of the most prominent political figures from the South-East, has frequently spoken on issues relating to security, national unity, restructuring, and the protection of constitutional rights.
He has also been a vocal advocate for dialogue and political solutions to challenges affecting the South-East region.
The reported remarks come amid growing concerns over insecurity, economic hardship, and political uncertainty in several parts of the country.
